The Difference Between the 1030 and the R259

The difference between the 1030 and the R259 is solely in the way we deal with the oxygen sensor. The BMW fuel injection system incorporates the use of a oxygen sensor to control fuel delivery in the highway cruise operating range.The ECU or brain of the fuel injection system only looks at the oxygen sensor range in this range, and it is known as "closed-loop ." In closed-loop, the oxygen sensor (being an emission based, automotive product) pulls the fuel mixture down to an air-fuel ratio of 14.7 to 1, known as stoichiometric ( the theoretical most complete combustion burn ). This lean condition combined with the light loads of cruising create a less than optimum driving experience.

When our standard #1030 product is installed on a stock BMW motorcycle, the oxygen sensor sees the extra fuel we add to resolve the light load, cruise fuel issues and removes it , rendering our product ineffective. We found however, that simply disconnecting the oxygen sensor did not create any issues with the fuel injection system, and our product then worked as well with those BMW motorcycles as with any other brand of bike.This application worked especially well with aftermarket exhaust systems on BMW 650's and twins.

For customers who wanted to leave the entire fuel injection system intact, either because of warranty or concern about the life of their catalytic converter, we decided to produce an additional product that actually monitored the signal produced by the oxygen sensor and then control the signal to achieve a fueling situation that improved the drivability of the motorcycle while keeping the oxygen sensor as an integral part of the system.
